Hiding "IBM_Service" Partition

#1 Post by LumberJack » Sun Mar 27, 2005 5:03 pm

Hey guys...

I've been doing a search for a while and wasn't able to solve my problem.
I started the Rapid restore installation, but once I saw the space requriements I exited. When I restarted my PC there is a new D: partition which now appears labeled "IBM_Service" the partition is only 30 or so megs and has a few batch fines in it. Where did this come from and how do I remove or hide it? my predesktop area is still intact and remains hidden in the bios

Any advice?

You are going to need a program such as Partition Magic or something similar to delete the D: partition and resize the C: partition back to full size.
Playing with partitions is a dangerous game and you should backup your data before attempting this.
Maybe you should consider finding a use for the D: partition instead of removing it. Backup you email, address book and favorites there, then if you do have to use the IBM restore function you will still have your data handy to import. 8)
Partition magic can also hide the partition for you.

While I agree with Carbon Unit about backups, I don't think it's a big deal to modify partitions with Partition Magic. Just make sure your backups include IMAGE backups so you can always revert to where you were.

Remove D: partition, expand C: or shrink C: and expand D: to make it a useful Data partition.
