windows error report at start-up...

#1 Post by James314 » Thu Mar 31, 2005 6:25 pm

Just started up my t42 and mid way through loading my desktop, I received a message saying that windows had just recovered from a serious error...what the hell is that about? I had shut down normally before hand and have never seen this kind of error report at start up before. Anyone know what might have happened?

Thanks.

James.

I'm not sure what might have happened in your particular instance, but you might be able to find a bit more information about the problem in the event viewer. Right click on My Computer, click on manage, and skim through the application and/or system event logs in the event viewer. Watch for entries with a red X. I am certainly not saying this will be the cause of your serious error (I sure hope it isn't), but I was receiving the messages upon start up when the original 40gb travelstar drive in my X31 was dying. The system event log was full of disk errors encountered at each shutdown.

Hope this helps!

it means that the system didn't shut down correctly... basically a pointless message...

ignore it! :D

ok, both your suggestions invite differant responses from me, one is to crap myself and call IBM and one is not worry as its nothing...can anyone enlighten me more?

thanks,

oh yeah...i checked and the errors were print - my printer cannot be found, whcih is true as i uninstalled the drivers for it as im about to buy a new one and service control manager - which says that it cannot find a suitable infra red device...???

Hehe, I wouldn't take this as a definate cause for alarm. It is entirely possible it is just a hiccup, and means absolutely nothing. I would just keep an eye on it. Unfortunately this particular Windows error is about as helpful as walking into a doctor's office and saying "something happened." If there doesn't appear to be anything serious in the event viewer, and your laptop isn't exhibiting any other strange behavior, I wouldn't worry about it.
