Trouble upgrading to .Net Framework 1.1 SP1

Hi folks-

I'm running XP SP2 on my T42P, up to date drivers to within a month or so, and fully up to date as far as Windows components.

Except, I get an error message every time I try to run the .Net Framework SP1 update. It gives the same error if I do any of these things:

-Automatic update via the Windows Update tool in the start menu.
-Download the update file (successfully) then run it manually.
-Boot to safe mode and try to run the update from there, using the locally-downloaded copy.

In all cases the update package opens a progress window, says it is preparing for the update, then hangs for a minute or two, then gives me an "update failed" message. I haven't been able to locate a meaningful error log.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the interesting blog link.

In the end, after trying many things there without success, I did a re-installation of the original 1.1 and then ran the 1.1sp1 update. That did the trick. Of course once I did that, there was yet another update needed to correct a security issue...

But I'm now on the latest build, I think.
