Loading XP - How do I keep ThinkPad?

#1 Post by teamdaddy » Sun Apr 03, 2005 12:07 am

I am going to do a clean install of Windows XP within the next week, and being the rookie that I am, I'm full of questions. I am wanting to keep the ThinkPad program when I load XP. Now, since it is my understanding that the entire hard drive will be reformatted, I'll be loosing all of this. I see it is a Program File, so would I be able to copy the ThinkPad folder to a CD, and then reload it after I've got XP installed? Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure which "Thinkpad Program" you are talking about, but you find all software and drivers on the IBM website.

There is an IBM icon on my desktop that reads "Access ThinkPad". When I click on it, it opens up into a window that has three major headings. One is called "ThinkPad Features", and contains topics such as a. About your computer, b. Everyday use, c. Enhancements, etc. The next major heading is called "Tools & Tips, and contains topics such as a. IBM Access Connections, b. Battery MaxMiser, etc. The third major topic is called "On the Web, and contains topics like a. Community, b. Accessories & Upgrades, etc.
It's such a handy little tool that I would like to keep it. If this is available from IBM as a download that would be great. Could you possibly give me a link to where I might find it? I've looked and can find no reference to it. Thanks for your help.

I've finally got XP loaded, but I had a friend who works in the IT department where I work to do it for me. Although I advised him to copy the drivers and tools folders, he did not and I had lost all of the drivers and the Access ThinkPad program that I was wanting to keep. I went to the IBM web site and had the web based program automatically detect my computer I then installed all of the drivers and most all of the utilities, but I cannot for some reason load the Access ThinkPad software. I keep getting this message, "Download director failed to load or JAVA scripting is disabled." Before the XP installation there was an ICON on the desktop that took me to this utility (access thinkpad). There is also a key in the top left corner of the keyboard that says "ThinkPad". It, too, will not work now, though it did before. I don't guess it's absolutely necessary to try and get this program back, but I sure would like to. If anybody can give me some advice on what to do, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

Well I guess if you keep at something long enough, you will eventually figure it out (even me  ). I was going through the drivers folder and I saw a file that was entitled ATP_PKG. Hell, even an old Georgia Boy can figure that one out.  I clicked on it and BINGO! I've got it back. Thankyou all for your help.
