Yikes. Thanks for all the advice. My buddy (computer literate) in LA is also checking. I agree that the no partitions list hurts. Does ANYBODY know anyone in DC with IT who might be able to help -- I will pay if they can fix it! The programs costing $500+ worry me, as do the cheaper ones that require lots of knowledge. I have no burner of CDs here but the T43 allows USB HD to boot. I can also take Metro out of DC to whereever you want...

thanks again for thinking of me. (702) 235-8853 mobile. Mike
Please contact me at hartmannm@un.org or intprosecutor@yahoo.com. Thanks for any help.

I've emailed you directly the best ideas I've come up with so far, sorry to hear James couldn't get it going for you.

But I'll share this with you to show that there are others having a bad day also!

The guy was NOT a clueless non-local, even though that was my first thought. What he was doing there is anyone's guess.

I've only sailed SF Bay waters 1/2 a dozen times, but even I know not to sail between the south tower and the shore.

You'd have thought that all the surfers in the water would have been a give-away.

I am not sure if this problem has been solved yet, but I am wondering if this may have happened.

He said he was really tired.

I am wondering if he shift typed his password. i.e. all the characters shifted to the right, or shifted up/right or up/left.

I am sure he would have used some common password that he uses regularily. Most as do that when we set up windows password for the first time. And mistyping the password twice rarely happens.

intprosecutor, if you have not gotten the R&R disks yet may be give this s shot. It might work.

the MiniPE XP on a CD with the password chang utility did the trick..

michael is now on the plane heading back to kosovo..
only one little problem is the password utility only works for the windows password and he also set the same unknown password for the service partition and while he can boot and run he'll need to do a reload after a full format to defeat that pesky service partition..

ANYWAY, all that aside, he asked me to thank everyone for their ideas and help and especially james (daeojkim) for his personal help..

so, feathers all around..

and let this be a lesson..
do NOT set a password while you are jet lagged and only semi concious.. :)
