Few days ago, I was using my ThinkPad T42 without the battery only using the main AC plug-in then suddenly a power outage occur. The next day, I run CHKDSK command in DOS and run "CHKDSK C: /F." I still have the same error.
"CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the
master file table (MFT) bitmap.
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these."
I tried running CHKDSK C: /F /R, ScanDisk, Error-Checking, SFC /scannow, and reformating the Hard Drive using IBM Rescue and Recovery(still fail). After running ScanDisk with the options "Automatically fix files system errors / Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"; when everything loads fine but when I run CHKDSK or Defrag the hard drive = Hard Drive Error. A good reboot, my ThinkPad runs fine as long as don't run Scan Disk with those options on causing Hard Drive Error to appear. I also run a extensive hard drive test to see if the hard drive at fault; there was nothing wrong.
The only solution can I see it to "WIPE" the entire Hard Drive clean, and install IBM Rescue and Recovery CD's. I already try googling it and there is a lot of theories no solution, but one don't ever run CHKDSK and SCAN DISK. Anyone got a possible solution to this mess?
