Frankenpad vs. T70?

#1 Post by Thinkpad4by3 » Tue Jul 25, 2017 3:49 pm

Ok, well even I could tell you that a Quad Core i7 will run rings around a QX9300, but what are the advantages and disadvantages of the T70 over
the Ultimate (or close to ultimate) Frankenpad?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

T70 doesn't have docking port. GPU is probably much better (even though it's integrated). Lower power consumption / better performance overall. DDR3 modules.
You would probably have to modify base so all ports could be accessible. Also notice that you may need special cooling for that. Reliabality??
I think there were some issues with T70 planar, you should take a look at 51nb's section at TP forum.

DDR3 modules.
No, it's DDR4. Up to 64Gb by the way, as soon as 32Gb modules become available.

No. You have to modify the frame and remove the expresscard slot flap, the base stays intact.

A modified T500 fan is supplied with the board. Reliability? We'll see. My board https://forum.51nb.com/forum.php?mod=vi ... a=page%3D1 has an issue, but I'm certain this will be resolved.
Yes, there are some smaller issues in general with the T70. Most of them will probably resolved via BIOS updates.
Sometimes coming over from the German forum...

Me culpa. I thought it has DDR3. So the dominance is even bigger.

Ok, I had in mind various modifications in base area.

Does this T500 fan is enough for quad core?

I think a T500 fan will do fine. Anyway, it has to deal with a 35W T9600 CPU, not some ultra-power efficient Core i7, so it should do fine.
