Battery tresholds for X62 and T70

#1 Post by wujstefan » Wed Dec 20, 2017 3:38 am

Is there a technical possibility of setting the battery tresholds for the 51nb systems?

I guess it is a matter of hardware and not software. However, is it the battery, or rather a system thing?

It's actually firmware. I believe it's a battery and a system thing. Part of the support is in the Embedded Controller, part is in the battery control chip. However I think it's mostly an EC issue, since it's the EC that detects battery levels, and just sends 'start/stop charging' commands to the battery. I think all Thinkpad batteries know how to accept these commands.

I will dig into that once my kids are asleep today. This is one kind of useful feature. If the battery is reckoned well, then it all depends on EC.

The other thing would be an ultrabay-battery charge levels. This has to be investigated :)

If you look carefully at 51nb.com official announcements at forum, you should know that X62/T70 Ultrabay doesn't provide serial/battery signals (only SATA is left). But if they are wrong and Ultrabay battery works for you, it would good iformation.

I haven't received X62/T70 yet, but if it supports battery charging ranges, it would be even better information (because money savings are always welcome).

Thanks evil, I did not see that. Could you post a link if you have it somewhere at the top please? I don't think I mentioned ultrabay battery in T70 anywhere (since I do not own a T70 :P), but that would be good to investigate as well. I was rather thinking of setting battery tresholds on main batteries, just like you can do it on the genuine Lenovo systems (ultrabay batteries live their own life anyway).

Do you guys use any software that limits charge tresholds (both max charge and start charging when below options) other than battery maximiser/power manager? All and any Lenovo software does not work (and this is no surprise)
