X320 / X330 Adaptive backlight control issue

#1 Post by erva » Wed Jun 13, 2018 9:25 am

Hi.

I am tempted to buy X330 from LCDfans. They use Dell XPS Sharp screen, which according to many DELL forum threads suffer from content-aware adaptive backlight control embedded in firmware. It dims the screen based on what colour is displayed on the screen currently. This feature can not be turned off and can be very distracting.

I contacted LCDfans but the communication with them is tough - not very good english and I think they didn't even understood what I meant exactly. Then I asked several people on Reddit and few of them told me that their display doesnt have this "feature".

So my question is: Is it really a thing? What about you? Is it avoidable somehow? How can I get my hands on piece without this feature?
Thanks!

The CMO Chi Mei Innolux N156HGE-L11 panel I put in my T520 has adaptive brightness. The feature does not bother me.
