Turns out due to the fact that x62 boards use edp instead of lvds you can actually scale your sxga+ panel to show uxga.
It works and works well!
Frankly, maybe its my eyes, but I can not tell noticeable degradation on image quality. Of course if I could compare with native 12.1 inch uxga screen I might think different but so far it does suffice.

A while back I scaled my X220's 1366x768 to 1536x864 with xrandr --scale 1.125x1.125.
But maybe it's one of the reasons my eyes got worse (narrowed focus range).
