Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
What's the latest update on this project? Is it still on-going?
Edit: sad that this project has ended

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
Sorry I might need to clarify here for everyone. The project is not completely canceled -- but based on what I've been informed it'll be very unlikely for them to ship the T700 boards within 2021 due to several difficulties, so the best measure I could do is just stop the crowdfunding from my end and give the money back to everyone. Chances are, the factory might still be able to sell the T700 boards later, so at that time you might be able to buy from a different modder.

Sad to hear that, I was actually pretty close to ordering a board for my T60. Do you have any suggestions for how we can keep up on the happenings with the project for those still interested?lulujyc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 8:56 amSorry I might need to clarify here for everyone. Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
so.... back to the T700
I really want to order one of these T700 motherboards, but I don't exactly have 1100 bucks to throw around, and from the way it's described, unless at least 20 other people also pledge that much there's a chance I won't get a refund. I'd totally be willing to sell my current rig (i5-8600, gtx 1080 TI) to fund this, but not if there's a chance that I won't get my money back, or a completed motherboard for my troubles.
How likely is it that there will be excess motherboards produced? would it be possible to buy one, possibly for a higher price, after they were all finished?
And how is the build quality on these newer motherboards? I'm pretty experienced with microsoldering, but if the motherboard goes dead a year after I buy it, and there's no recourse there in terms of repair or warranty, it seem like a bad purchase on the face of it.
Lastly, I don't see a connector in the DVD drive bay for an ultrabay battery. I love my ultrabay battery! Plus having 3 different options for removable batteries would add a lot of utility to a laptop with a newer chip like this, in terms of weight and battery life. Would it be possible to add in a connector for one, or is that not feasible?
I'd love to hear from xyte.ch on this, but I'm not sure if he's ITT.

Can't speak to anything else, but I know that for some reason the ultrabay battery is not included as was discussed earlier in the thread (I had the same question).

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
It' not a 51nb project,but it's a HOPE(the founder of the 51nb) project.
Lenovo prosecuted 51nb several year ago,and 51nb lose the court.
so thinkpad T50/T70/X62/X2100 even the thinkpad x330 diappeared in 51nb
no 51nb modded thinkpad anymore

So is this project dead? I have checked a few different blogs and facebook posts about it, and none of them have been updated for about 8-10 months now.

everything fine except too heavy. lol
I have suggested removing the roll cage in the next project, but it is difficult to execute

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
The roll cage is probably one of the lights parts in a T6x machine, its magnesium alloy and incredibly spindly. Honestly, your biggest single-item weight pieces are probably your battery, your LCD, and then all of the plastic case pieces. The lid is also Mg and shouldn't be too heavy. That and all the copper in your PCBs...
Anyhow - are T700 boards still available, and if so, whats the going rate for an 11th gen one right now? Is Thunderbolt working yet? I wouldn't mind having one of these.

All T60 are between 2-3kg, it's the nature of the desktop replacement and it won't get any lighter. You have to move down to X61 if you want a lighter bento box.

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
well,in the next project on paper, We imagine to replace all the parts Including 3d print or CNC the outershell, only exceptions are the screen and the keyboard. This plan would be much cheaper.
while other person insisted on keep everything original,Except the motherboard.
Now the biggest problem is that we do not have a project manager who want to lead
all t700 motherboards are soldout.
tb4, sitll has problem, but they will fix it, now it works as USB3

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
Why keep the screens? Great modern 16:10 LCDs are available, just carry the keyboards over, use newer batteries (from the T480 or P52 maybe), and do the rest from scratch, wouldn't be any more work, and parts availability would be a whole lot easier.

This would be like the terminator, who is always keeping his heart to prove that he is a human
The second reason would be quite common. Fans of the 51nb Forum kept at least two 4:3 screens by average. We thinks This would be the last heart of the t61
you can google tda screen, price of new one is around three or four hundred dollars, and I know at least ten person have it

Thanks for the inspiration
I would call the plan for only keeping four by three screen “project marcus” ,I think the other project they will call it t7000 or t701

Why not jump ahead to T800, since you're already referencing Terminator.

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project
I really like your idea to call it t eight hundred
But to be t eight hundred it should be something so terminating
So I would not name it t eight hundred until we can find some semi-permanent solution
