X2100 13 inch vs 12.6 inch
X2100 13 inch vs 12.6 inch
Hello X2100 13-inch owners,
I been told that the 13 inch has risk of easy side impact damage.
any feedback from you guys and your impression?
Should I go for the 13 inch? do you guys think the space on the outer edges is just too small and a simple small drop or side impact with damage the wonderful 13 inch panel?
thank you X2100 owners..

Again me and still no machine in my hands, what I do know about 13" is that the screen lid is replaced completely. It still comes from a Thinkpad but from an entirely different model. Master Xue Yao (xytech) was advertising some metal re-inforcements inside the lid to make it stronger but I obviously have no idea how impact resistant the 13" models are. This is not something I considered when placing the order exactly a year ago. Where are you going to order btw? Or are you going to buy 2nd hand?
P.S. I do own X220 and I know first-hand that the lid on X220 is made of two parts. I've read online that the lid has a tendency to break into two with years because these two parts are joined together with some sort of metal part that isn't very strong. Thankfully this hasn't happened to me yet. Looking at X200/X201 photos it seems the lid design is similar to X220/X230 - e.g. it's also made of two parts. I have no idea how prone that design is to breaking. Apparently the strain comes just from openning/closing X220/X230. Probably the usual issue with 10-year old machines - hinges too stiff. The solution advised for X220 is to plant some extra metal inside. That obviously requires disassembly. So I was hoping to at least avoid that problem with X2100. Okay I have successfully avoided it.. by not getting the machine at all.. sad-smile

From all I heard and my interaction with Xue, he is wonderful.atagunov wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 2:02 pmAgain me and still no machine in my hands, what I do know about 13" is that the screen lid is replaced completely. With that being said, you ordered your X2100 a year ago and you still have not received it? Even now feb 2021??? Any time line on when you will get it?
I would like to order from Xue but I was told he is still working on other orders and honestly, i am giving the impression he is not urgent at all to take my order. Perhaps he is overwhelmed with orders and business. As opposed to a vendor whom I know is very eager to take business as much as they can. All is fine but since you still have not received it, I am sure my order will be months behind your order. Xue was fair, he did tell me he cant fulfill my order since he is still working on other orders ahead of me. fair enough but your order over a year ago? wow! you should FIRST ON THE LIST!!
I own X230's. many of them. never had an issue with the lid. I have opened up the full assembly to see the design. it seems study and good. I have also opened up the X201S LCD assembly, and it is very sturby. its held together with very strong tight screws. I dont see it falling apart at all.
Reinforcing the lib assembly for the 13 inch panel is fine so it doesn't separate and fall apart.. that is not the part that worries me. The part that worries me about the 13 inch panel is the EDGES. does the panel come too close to the EDGES where any small side impact, and the 13 inch panel is crushed? does the 12.6 inch panel make more sense. its not much smaller. has that LITTLE bit of additional space to cushion any side impact blow that may be the difference between crushed panel vs a protected panel?
I love the SMALLER BEZEL. looks cool but does the 13 inch really provide that much more viewing area and slighly larger pixel size and enjoyment over the 12.6 inch? 3000 x 2000 vs 2880 x 1920 is what we are looking at.
final comment, I truly hope you get your X2100 soon and enjoy it!!

Atagunov, did you decide your x2100 from XY tech yet?atagunov wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 2:02 pmAgain me and still no machine in my hands, what I do know about 13" is that the screen lid is replaced completely. Re: X2100 13 inch vs 12.6 inch
Hi, I've been just told the machine is en-route to intermediate shipping point from which it can travel internationally.
I'm now trying to figure out if my priorities have shifted enough for me to want a T700 more than an X2100

I'm sorry to derail the thread slightly, but what factors are you weighing in that decision on T700 vs X2100? As in, what is making you lean one way or the other?

To be honest they are both (13 inch and 12.6 inch) sucks and easy to break. I use all of them and now I am on stock 12 inch.
