Very loud fan on X2100

#1 Post by datarama » Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:20 am

Hi Thinkpadders,

I have an X2100 from Xue Yao, and it's a great little machine for programming and various other so-called "productive" tasks on Linux. I have the latest BIOS/EC posted on his page (January 2022).

Unfortunately, its fan is *very* loud and ramps up very aggressively - sometimes, it gets very loud even though the air coming out of the vent isn't very hot. Has anybody managed to get X2100 noise to a reasonably quiet level?

I think the best you can do is to check out the BIOS reverse engineering thread and adjust the fan intensity steps to your taste via binary patching.
