T700 defects

#1 Post by arkenoi » Sat Jan 10, 2026 6:31 am

So far, mine arrived with:
- non-working lid sensor (thinks it's closed, very annoying)
- faulty power management firmware (it works, but: linux thinks battery disappears and reappears randomly; battery type is CJOYIN Y91 regardless of what actual battery is; thinks line power is always plugged in)
- disabled touchpad and fingerprint sensor (physically disconnected, i removed keyboard pad and plugged it back in, now works)

anyone else had these problems? I see zero posts from t700 owners :(

I just ordered a t700 from Franck Deng. I'll point him towards this thread, maybe he can help. Also, ask around the Thinkpad Discord, as it's much more lively than this forum. I haven't logged in since 2019, only did so to reply here.

Thanks I talked to him! He says battery behavior could have something to do with firmware and power management, but I updated to the lastest version from chinese forum and reduced power consumption and it did not help much :(

A lot of these problems might just be "how they are". From what I know, the T700 project didn't go too well and has a number of bugs and issues. It was delayed by around 2 years (iirc) and they never got the thunderbolt support working. Agree with what "Ya Dad" said though, Franck's your guy if you do want to know what could be fixed and what can't.

Not directly related to the topic of this thread, but since you are one of the relatively few who have a copy, I think it is sufficiently on-topic: How is the noise level on T700? I considered ordering this machine, but according to Gemini (added link 18.02.26), I would probably not be satisfied with the noise level. At the moment, I am frustrated by the fan noise level on P1 G6 - even with extreme power-saving measures -, which I was stupid enough to buy in order to avoid an off-set keyboard on a 16-inch device.

I can't speak on the noise level, but I can say with confidence that Gemini has absolutely zero idea how loud an extremely obscure custom laptop where 95% of the documentation about it is in Chinese runs. Please do not use AI to try to get information on anything that may be considered even slightly obscure.
