Heads up on ThinkPad P70
Heads up on ThinkPad P70
Hello everyone,
I received my ThinkPad P 70 on Tuesday 12/29/2015, via UPS in Switzerland.
It is fully loaded and has all the options.
It is not a ghost. But I wish it was.
Yesterday Thursday 12/31/2015 for the very first time I started my computer.
Unfortunately, the first thing happened on the screen was the following:
2100: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)
Press Esc to continue
Not very happy about it.
I have bought it directly from Lenovo Switzerland through Digital River.
Any idea how to handle this?
I have 5Y On-site NBD + Accidental Damage Protection. But I don’t think it’s fair when it came with SSD1 (M.2) fault to start with.
Any input will be appreciated.
Happy New Year
Sepy

Re: Heads up on ThinkPad P70
The problem might be outdated firmware on that SSD.
Lenovo's forum has quite a few threads with the same problem.
Unless you get it going, wait till next Monday, then call Lenovo to send in the troops.
Tell them to also bring a new M.2 SSD, just in case.

Re: Heads up on ThinkPad P70
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
The SSD is the latest Samsung 950 Pro!
It came with the ThinkPad.
I have checked the Samsung site and there is no new firmware.
Just the initial release.
Regards,
Sepy
P.S. I wish it was that easy to tell them bring an extra SSD. They are law to themselves!

Interesting. I read somewhere that it was supposed to be the OEM version 951 SSD. The retail 950 Pro is newer tech.Sepy wrote:Hi,

Hi,
I checked the model number and it was Pro but for all I know it can be OEM.
Then again if it was OEM by now it should have the right firmware.

Re: Heads up on ThinkPad P70
But it is 950 instead of 951? Two different things.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SM951-512 ... M951+512GB
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01639 ... 7D82389YNZ
I don't think there is a 951 "Pro", so it probably is a 950 in your P70. That is a plus. Well, if it worked.
Good article here:

Re: Heads up on ThinkPad P70
Not very sure which one.
Either way it is not working.
My ThinkPad P70 was expensive.
I can't understand why they no longer check these things.
Really silly on their part.

Hi,
This afternoon they are comig to change the SSD.
Then I have to install the operating system from USB which was sent to me by Lenovo.
Have not done that for a very long time.
Maybe I try it later this week.
If I had a problem installing it I will post here for help.
Thanks

Wow, it been over two weeks. Why were they so slow in responding?
BTW, what size SDD did you get?

Re: Heads up on ThinkPad P70
I've just read the first review of P70 (using Google Translate). Seems a real beast, hope you manage to resolve it. Seems like there's a place for 4 disks there, so one less is not such an issue

what about 230W slimtangle signal
Thank you evening_hunger for pointing to Notebookcheck, for that review made me aware of the ThinkPad 230W AC Adapter (slim tip). USA Parts: FRU Part # 00HM626; Option Part# 4X20E75111. Does anybody have a opportunity to measure a 230W supply resistance signal?
Just say NO to PWM.

Re: Heads up on ThinkPad P70
The Samsung 951 Pro was replaced that originally came with it.
I had to reinstall the Window from USB which was provided to me by Lenovo.
Everything works but I still haven't really played with it.
