AES wacom pen support on Thinkpad P50

#1 Post by i2000s » Mon Mar 28, 2016 2:31 am

Hi there,

I noticed that P50 can support a wacom AES pen. Can I just order a configuration with touch screen (FHD) without a pen on Lenovo website and then buy a separate wacom AES pen from elsewhere later? Will this work for sure?

My hope is that Wacom will work out a universal rechargable AES pen by this year. I don't feel a pen with AAAA battery is a good thing for me. I can still use my X200 tablet and tablet 2 for notes taking for now, so a pen on the P50 shouldn't be an immediate need. Plus I am not sure if the Non-flippable screen of P50 makes me feel good to write on it. I may want to wait to check, or someone else can chime in with a real life experience of writing on a P50 screen here...

Thanks!

PS: I was planning to purchase a Thinkpad Yoga 460 to replace my X200T (need an i7 cpu and dGPU now). But the price of Yoga 460 is too high and the dGPU is still not available in US. So, I am changing my mind and open to better options... I will possibly sell my old X31 and X61T to get some extra money for the budget soon as well...
X31 (since 2003), X61T (2007), X200T (2009), ThinkPad Tablet 2 (2013), P50 (2016).
Considering more Thinkpads. Retiring my X200T. PM me if anyone wants to home it.
OS: Ubuntu and Windows 10.

So, I asked a CSP. The quick answer is no... The pen has to be purchased while choosing the touch screen config, otherwise a pen purchased later won't work.
