P51 power adapter

#1 Post by charlienyc » Wed Jan 24, 2018 10:50 am

Hi,
I got my new ThinkPad P51 recently and want a spare power adapter. Ideally it would be either thinner or lighter than the 170W one that came with the laptop, to use for travel. Am I restricted to the same model # or are the other 170W adapters with rectangular tips close enough?

What came with it: 4X20E50574, 45N0371, 45N0372, ADL170NDC2A
I've seen many adapters (on fleabay) that share the same 4X20E50574 but have different part numbers, like 45N0373 and ADL170NLC2A

Taking it a step further, I'm thinking the 135W adapters won't cut it. True?
Cheers

That P51 is a Workstation/Desktop.
I'd suggest you get a 12.5" X220/X230 or similar for traveling.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

A smaller charge will likely just maintain the battery while in use and would still charge when shut down. I used to use a smaller charger on my W series workstation, a small warning would appear when you plug it in but it worked very well. Loved the smaller charger for traveling.

Thanks Greg! This is what I was hoping for, to use the laptop on battery for a few hours, then leave it charging for a while or overnight on trips. Have you used the 135W then?

Just following up in case anyone's curious. I bought a USB 3 dock for this machine (P/N 40A80045US). Now I take away its 45W power adapter with me on trips. It charges the machine when I'm not working and is very lightweight and compact.
