P51 Spectre/meltdown bios update

#1 Post by kajencik » Wed Mar 14, 2018 8:20 am

Hello everyone, great to be back to this wonderful community :)

I just recently got a P51 at work which I absolutely love (I really feel like it is the return to what made me to fall in love with thinkpads in the first place - IPS screen, efficient design, great cooling under load, perfect keyboard).

And I just saw the latest bios update in the lenovo update software which should address the spectre/meltdown vulnerabilities. This is definitely something I need to apply, but I would like to ask if anyone has tried this and maybe run some performance test before and after? I may do some myself, but given the nature of this (quite significant CPU microcode changes, etc), I feel like it might be better to just wait a few weeks...

What do you think?

P52 - i7-8750H, 48GB RAM, P1000, 512GB+1TB SSDs, Full HD IPS, 6 cell battery
X230 - i5-3380, IPS 12.5 LCD, 128+256 GB SSDs, 6 cell battery (almost dead)
