Smart card reader for P1 Gen 2
Smart card reader for P1 Gen 2
Hi all,
I would like to know if any of you purchased a preconfigured P1 or P1 Gen 2. If you did do you know if it possible to install a lenovo smart card reader in?
Mainly does it have the smart card slot on the preconfigured models and if there is a space to install one?

Re: Smart card reader for P1 Gen 2
I do not have one of these machines, but if they can be ordered with a Smart Card reader, chances are good that the jack to plug it in is already on the mother board and all you will need to do is buy the card reader, and possibly do a little inside carving on the underside of the palmrest.
I installed a Smart Card reader in my T520 that was not initially ordered with a card reader installed. The jack was ready to use, and I had to carve the stiffening ribs off of the underside of the palm rest and carefully carve the slot for the card.
The outline of the slot was already molded in to the backside of the palmrest so it was a simple matter of scoring the correct lines with an Exacto knife to cut open the slot and then lightly sanding the edges to smooth.
As soon as the system booted the drivers were downloaded and installed automatically.

Many thanks for the reply. The issue is if I were to do that then the warranty will be void :/
Re: Smart card reader for P1 Gen 2
I would imagine it would void the warranty. I wasn't much concerned with that for an eight year old Thinkpad.

Re: Smart card reader for P1 Gen 2
My P1 Gen 2 came without, there is a kit (reader & cable) you can find it from the machine's support page in the parts section. It doesn't void the warranty. I don't know if the kit is the same for the Gen 1 as the Gen 2. Most of the readers are the same, but the cables can be different.
