2 times NVMe drives in 2016 P50

#1 Post by blinketysky » Fri Aug 21, 2020 7:32 pm

Hi there,

I currently have one Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB M.2 PCIe in my 2016 Thinkpad P50 with the m2000 graphics and 40GB DDR4.

I am looking at additional storage and have not had time to read the p50 manual yet.

Would you guys buy another Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB or would you go for a different option.

How much of the available bandwidth of the PCIe lanes would the second drive be able to use?

Perhaps I would be better off with a standard SSD as my additional storage?

Thanks for any input.

Suggest you use the new 1 TB or 2 TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD as your main drive.

Suggest you leave your old 500 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD to be used as a backup data SSD (or for putting movie/songs), since your P50 has more than enough SSD slots!
