Thinkpad P70 & P71- replace display panel?

#1 Post by IBMfan700 » Sun Nov 08, 2020 2:01 am

I was wondering, is it possible to replace the screen on a 1080p P70 or P71 with a 4K display?

I guess it would need to have the right connector available to use (40-pin) to suit 4K.
Would a P70/P71 that came originally with a 1080p screen also have the 40-pin connector, or would it just have the 30-pin connector for 1080p?

I literally did this in 2019.

The FHD (1080p) screen has a 30-pin connector.

You will need the 40-pin connector, as well as ... well pretty much any 17" 4k display will work.

It was plug and play. Maybe an hour TOTAL of work. A little over two years later, it is still going strong, although I will revert back to 1080p to sell later on.
