How are you setting the fans? As I recall, TPFanControl cannot natively change the speed of both the CPU and GPU fans since they can be controlled independently....perhaps that may be the issue?

Still having weird throttling issues so I've not bothered benching. Waiting on a response from Lenovo at the moment.

Total shot in the dark, but I ran all of the BIOS self-tests, and it turns out my motherboard has a faulty accelerometer. Its likely that APS is always tripping and I need a new motherboard. Updating support with that info now, hopefully they send me a new board and that fixes my issue...

It is what it is. Hopefully they just send me a new board, I set aside an hour or so and swap it out, and my issue is solved.

Didn't your system purchase include on-site maintenance?

Lenovo is coming out Wednesday (tenatively) to replace my motherboard under warranty.

Have onsite but I'd rather they just send me a board than a tech, I can do the job faster and I know for a fact I won't screw anything up in the process.

That's all nice and well, but they don't know that. There is a question of unclear liability - what happens if they let you service your own machine, and then something else breaks in the process. Can they claim it was your fault? Can they prove it? Can you prove that it wasn't? Etc. I expect most companies would refuse letting the customer service a part that is not defined as a CRU, for a machine that is still under warranty.

They let me do the LCD on my P53 and a motherboard on my T480, I'm not sure why they wouldn't this time around.

Bottom line is they shouldn't have shipped me 2 defective systems if they don't want me asking for a solution that gives me the lowest downtime for a repair.

I would repair my own too, but it came with on-site maintenance so I will let them assume responsibility for getting my T16 back to 100% working. They screw this up and they'll be back.

Lenovo won't ship a motherboard, and for some reason can't send a technician to my address, so its off to a depot. Thankfully I have keep-your-drive, so at the very least I know I have no risk of data loss, but I'm bracing for impact given the horror stories I've heard about Lenovo depot techs. I was told that the depot has the motherboard in stock, so hopefully this repair is done quickly. In the meantime my P52 carries on...

Got it back today, and as expected they broke the clips on the bottom panel at the depot. Time to go down the rabbit hole of extracting a new panel and SN sticker from them... At least its functional again. I'll run those benchmarks this Saturday.

They won't ship a MB because it's an FRU and not a CRU item. And, I guess because it's under warranty. What sucks is with such an expensive unit is that your unit didn't get the on-site maintenance that came with my T16.

Hard to believe they couldn't get the bottom off without breaking the clips. Mine has been on and off so many times without trouble or breakage it ain't funny.

I have onsite, but was told it would take longer with onsite since they would have to find a tech near me then ship them the board. As for the clips, theres 1 by each hinge on the P1F5 that require you to flex the bottom pannel a little bit to unseat, they broke both of them.

What a terrible experience. I'd ask for a new machine or get your credit card company involved.

No need for a new machine, this is already the 2nd since the original had all sorts of major issues. All I really care about is that the thing works (which it does, and well now). A bottom panel and an SN sticker is something that they should be able to just send me.

They're sending me a replacement bottom panel. In the meantime, I'll have those benchmarks for you all by the end of tomorrow. Sorry this ended up taking so long if anyone was counting on my benchmarking this system in order to make a purchasing decision.

How are you enjoying your machine? I am absolutely loving mine. It's a monster.

Comping from a 3930k desktop - this thing leaves it in the dust. I play MSFS 2020 at ultra settings in 4k on a pretty regular basis and the performance of the machine is phenomenal.

Loving it so far, now that all of the issues have been ironed out its fantastic. Flies through every workload I've thrown at it. I don't do much gaming these days, but just for fun I played through all of Portal RTX at 1600p, and with DLSS was able to stay well above 120 fps the whole time. Pretty impressive honestly, especially given that it barely crept past 80c on CPU or GPU (though admittedly it was pretty loud, manually set the fans to state64), but I really can't complain, for something this thin and light to perform that well is a feat. I can honestly say that this is the first Thinkpad workstation I've owned that hasn't felt kneecapped by its thermals.

My souped up T520 hasn't missed a beat since I bought it years ago.

Lenovo can't even get these right out-of-the-box.

On another note - which TPFANCONTROL are you downloading? I cannot find the one that can control both fans that works on the P1G5 with Windows 11
