Thinkpad P50 flickering screen

#1 Post by jedisurfer1 » Fri Nov 04, 2022 11:06 am

Is anyone else running into this? I've seen some youtube videos of people and some posts about this and have not run into a solution or suggestion besides a new LCD which the UHD is out of stock at most places.

I only have a w541 so I know it's not exactly the same but I know flickering is present on that generation too. When it happens to me it's the worst when I'm on battery and it gets worse when the battery is about 25% and less. Oddly enough it doesn't happen as often when used with its original battery and it happens more with the battery from my t440p on the odd occasion I have to use it. When it happens it is merely the backlight giving out - the screen itself is still displaying images. I have to assume it has something to do with the backlight controller. Since my w541 is now docked most of the time I never see it happen anymore. If you have the opportunity to, try using a newer battery and see if it goes away. It might have to do with the lower voltage of a dying (out of juice) battery.
