Thinkpad P53 RAM question

#1 Post by maxinflixion » Wed Apr 05, 2023 7:28 am

New P53 added to the fleet.

I am wondering with the 4 RAM slots if there is a method to which need to be populated like on a desktop motherboard. Mine has one stick under the keyboard. I'd rather add sticks to the bottom of the machine as it is easier access, but didn't know if this would negatively affect performance.

Any input is appreciated.

Well... my research led me to believe the slots were paired. I caved and put matching sticks under the keyboard with another matching pair for under the bottom cover on the way.

Nothing like unboxing a new old stock laptop and having the keyboard removed less than 40 minutes later.

There's 2 channels, 1 slot in each location is allocated to each channel. From memory it doesn't really matter, just follow the usual rule of keep your timings matched, try and keep capacities across channels the same, etc.
