ThinkPad T495 and X395 have AMD CPU's

#1 Post by w0qj » Mon Jul 01, 2019 3:19 am

You've probably heard of this already, but here it is: ThinkPad T495 and X395 have AMD CPU's.
(There is no T595 fyi).

Anyways, one would suspect that ThinkPad is coming with a new model naming convention, since they are apparently running out of model numbers for T4xx, X3xx, and T5xx series!
Daily Driver: (X1E3) X1 Extreme 3rd Gen | mobile broadband (WWAN)
Current Thinkpads: X1E3 | X1E1 | X1C10 | X1C9 | X1C4 | X1C3 | X230
Retired Thinkpads: X250 | T410 | T42 | 560 (circa 1996)

They simply dropped the A series (A285 and A485) and folded them into the T series.
That said, next year's models might have a new naming scheme.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

Or they could just start over with T500 II, T510 II, T520 II, and so on, or T501, T502, T503, etc. Or even T500b, T510b, T520b.

I'm really curious as to what they come up with.
A31p P-IV 2Ghz, 2MB, 2653-R6U
T500 T9600 2055-BE9
T510 i5 4384-DV7
T510 i7 4349-A64
T520 i7QM 4242-4UU Highly Modified
T16 i7 1260P 21BV000SUS

[Edit: Updates to below X1 Carbon lists would be posted here:]

I personally would prefer Mark I, Mark II, Mark III, Mark IV, etc.

But just look at X1 Carbon, it's a naming mess? Even avid ThinkPad users may have trouble figuring their X1 Carbon is which generation??
Hopefully ThinkPad would start calling it "X1 Carbon mark VII", or "X1 Carbon mk VII", etc.

X1 Carbon 7th Generation = 2019 June launch
X1 Carbon 6th Generation = 2018 Jan launch
X1 Carbon 5th Generation = 2017 Jan launch
X1 Carbon 4th Generation = 2016 Jan launch
X1 Carbon 3rd Generation = 2015 Jan launch
X1 Carbon 2nd Generation = 2014 Jan launch
X1 Carbon 1st Generation = 2012 June launch
X1 (The Original X1; this is not X1 Carbon): 2011 June launch

Part of me wants the ancient naming scheme where you just add/change the suffix to denote an updated model with the same chassis, e.g. 560 --> 560E --> 560X --> 560Z :D
