Phone jack too loose; is it a common issue?
Phone jack too loose; is it a common issue?
Ordered a T14 gen2 AMD variant from Lenovo last December and it arrived this February. I found the phone jack has almost no retention the first day using it. I didn't want to send a brand new laptop back to factory because of reasons, but now it becomes more and more annoying. The headphone would unplug just because of the vibration of typing on the keyboard. I wonder if it's a common issue and if there is a trick to fix.
BTW I couldn't complain on the lenovo community forum because it keeps asking me to complete my community profile despite I have already submitted posts before, and it won't accept any input because my profile already exists. duh.

We use T14/15 and L14/15s pretty much exclusively at our clients and I've never run into one like that. So yeah, it sounds like a defect.

You may be able to access the inside of the phone jack with a needle or small crochet hook or similar, to try and bend the 'internals' so that it holds the plug better.
Switch fully off before you try.
Or better: call in for a warranty repair at your place or send it in.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have contacted customer service and prepared to send it back for repair.
I hope they will not turn this into a bigger problem. I had a unpleasant experience with them more than a decade ago when I sent my x61t for warranty repair because the directional buttons were flaky. There were traces of glue on the screen and the wifi became sluggish after it came back.

Reporting back. Finally got the laptop back from Lenovo after 3 weeks and the problem still exists.
The laptop was shipped out on 8/29 and arrived at repair center on 8/30. They swapped the mobo and handed it over to FedEx on 8/31. The package arrived me on 9/4. Unfortunately the jack is still loose. Maybe a tad tighter but still much loose compared to my other laptops, phones, etc. So I guess it's a common issue. I forgot to mention that it's only loose with 3-contact phone plugs. It's quite tight with 4-contact plugs before and after the repair.
That's not the end of the story because I found a dent/scratch in the middle of the screen. I doubt someone dropped a tool on it so I filed an escalation. After talking with a supervisor of customer service I sent the laptop back again on 9/12 and received it today (9/26) with a new screen. But still, the phone jack is loose with my favorite headphones that have 3-contact plugs.

This may shed some light: https://www.headphonesty.com/2019/04/he ... explained/
Also, maybe try a female 3-pole to male 4-pole adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000061489131.html

omg. I totally thought you were trying to plug a RJ11 into a RJ45 port. I saw "phone jack" and thought you were mistaking an ethernet port for a port to plug in a phone line for dialup internet, not plugging a 3.5mm cord into the combo port.
