T14 / P14 gen 2 - 14" 4K UHD screens - Does anyone know the model number?

#1 Post by iamdmc » Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:18 am

Does anyone know the part number for the new T14 gen 2 UHD LCD screens (dolby vision, 500 nits, anti-glare)? I'm looking to upgrade from my 300 nit WQHD screen on my T480s. If you have this machine could you please use hwinfo to find out the manufacturer and model number, and post it here? I'd greatly appreciate?

Details:
The psref for the T14 gen 2 doesn't list anything useful, and the parts lookup has 2 UHD options that have FRUs (5D11C95781 from CSOT and 5D11C99675 from BOE) but no manufacturer part number. The T14s gen 2 parts lookup shows 2 different FRUs for 4K 500nits (5D10V82379 CSOT and 5D10V82380 BOE) but no part numbers.

I know the 4K UHD (semi-gloss) BOE NV140QUM-N53 has been out for a while (X1C 2019, X1C 2020) but that screen has enough drawbacks that I'm not interested

and the 4K UHD LG LP140UD1-SPD3 is recently released, but I can't find any reviews about it online (c'mon Notebookcheck!) - could this be the screen? The panelook shows it has 350cd/m2 (nits) but the new T14 gen 2 4K UHD screen is supposed to have 500nits brightness to meet the dolby vision HDR 400 standard

There are only two 14" UHD screens on panelook that have 500nits, one of which is glossy, and the second one (AUO B140ZAN01.8 ) has an antiglare coating... but again no reviews

Little help guys?

I had a client order a T14 with the 4K panel (20W00024US). It's been on backorder for over a month now, but hopefully will show up in a few weeks. If I can get my hands on it, I will check to see if I can get the panel details. I hate to make you wait, but maybe someone else here has a quicker answer. :)

I think I have the information for the CSOT variant of this screen, but BOE also produce another approved panel. Could you check when you receive your customer's unit?

For future reference to the community: Thanks to u/yasnosos on reddit for confirming the CSOT model number MNE001EA1-4 in the T14 gen 2 (2021) which is likely FRU 5D10V82379 (unconfirmed)

Review of the older -2 panel at notebookcheck https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Yo ... 318.0.html

The screen is praised but apparently still only hits 75-83% adobe rgb, less than the 90% that Lisa at mobile tech review stated in her YouTube review. Much better than the 60% I have now on my qhd screen and much brighter at 500 nits vs 300 (max) so I'll probably buy it (but I'd rather buy the BOE panel than CSOT if I can find out the model number).

To date (4 July 2021) I can't find any sources, reputable or otherwise, that stock the panel. Probably need to wait a few months for stock plus a few weeks for shipping

OK, according to HWInfo, it gives these two numbers for the panel:

Perfect! thanks for confirming the CSOT model number MNE001EA1-4

there should also be a BOE variant of this screen as Lenovo appears to source from both manufacturers.

How do you/your customer find the screen quality?

I presented the customer with it just yesterday and I haven't gotten much feedback yet, but I did take note of the brightness almost right away. So my limited first impressions were good.

Windows set the DPI scaling to 300% by default (way too big). I set it to 100% briefly to see if I could cope as I use a WQHD panel on my T25/T480 FrankenPad. It's pretty small, but I think I could do it if ever I decide to upgrade later. 8)

You could go for the WQHD panel from the X1C 7th gen. That was 500 nit if I'm not mistaken, and pretty color accurate (although not as much as this newer 4K panel).

Very jealous of your T25/T480. I loved the classic keyboard and was willing to splurge on one but they were only sold in the USA so I went for a T480s and have been happy with it

NV140QUM-N54 as used in the ideapad c940-14iil should work. I have one in my slightly modified T495.
It should work in most of the 14in since like the t480 and maybe before, any edp laptop that came with 1440p non touch as option.
you have to modify the display signal cable slightly, basically peal off the tape at the connection and carefully straighten the wires out for about 1.5cm before turning. Also the cable routing requires a bit of glue to keep it from getting pinched on reassembly.
It is a great panel, if a bit glossy, but hdr500 10bit and fairly good colour reproduction.

The WQHD panels on my X1C4 are really nice. Can't they be transplanted into newer devices? They all are supposed to be eDP...
