T430 and Linux Pop_os running hot

#1 Post by thinking_of_pads » Mon Jul 01, 2019 7:53 am

Hi everyone,
My first & desperate panic post.

Please help resolve my problem.

I have a T430 with discrete nvidia graphics card.

I have two SSDs:
1- Windows 10
2- Linux Pop_OS

When I boot into the first SSD running windows 10 the system is not too hot and runs fine.

When I boot into the second SSD with LinuxPop_OS, the system runs super hot.

Why ? And how can I fix this ?

in Pop_OS I can switch between using: Intel vs Nvidia Graphics card.

sudo system76-power graphics nvidia

or

sudo system76-power graphics intel

Thank you

Can you please be a little more clear on this part? Are you experiencing the temperature issues when you're in the Nvidia graphics card mode in pop_OS? Or is it when you're in the Intel graphics card mode? Or is it both?

You can disable switchable graphics in the BIOS, in case discrete graphics is not really needed (that depends on the intended use). That usually resolves the heating issue (unless it is caused by some other factor.)
