x201 Ultranav lower mouse buttons & touchpad stopped working

#1 Post by kennyschiff » Sun Oct 30, 2011 4:36 pm

Am running Ubuntu 10.10 on an X201. I often use my machine docked, but today was intending to use it undocked when I discovered that the touchpad and lower buttons are not working at all. The trackpoint works fine, as does thie buttons below the space bar. Machine is not dual boot, so it's hard to determine whether this is physical or OS related. Anyone else run into this?

Did you try rebooting to see whether it's a one-time glitch?

Is the touchpad enabled in the BIOS?

It turns out this is a common problem. I found a solution here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad

This particularly did the trick...

gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true
