I am starting this thread as I am just about to start a project installing Fedora 16 64bit and OSX Lion on my T61p (currently running Win XP SP3 32-bit).
After long hours of searching the internet I still have not found anyone that has installed Fedora 16 64-bit on a T16p, but bare in mind I am sitting behind the "Great Firewall of China" where everything is blocked, gotta get a VPN up and running asap.
Some questions I am still looking for is if it's possible to install Fedora on a memory stick using it in the Ricoh memory card reader.
Would this give me better performance than installing it on my 100GB SATA150 in the main bay? And is it possible to boot/load it in dual boot mode with a OSX install on the 100GB drive?
Anyhow, I am looking forward to start installing after I went off to the market and get myself that memory card (SD I guess would be cheap and still good performance).
Planned setup:
1. Memory Card 16GB: Fedora 16
2. 100GB SATA150: OSX 10.7.2 (to be installed later)
3. 320GB SATA300: 320 GB of storage for both Fedora and OSX.
Set-Up Info:
Current OS:
Windows XP SP3 32-bit
Hardware specifications, T61p 6457AK7 (Bios: 2.18 )
CPU: Core2Duo T7500 2.2GHz
RAM: 2x1 GB (soon to be upgraded to 2x2 GB)
HDD: Hitachi SATA150, 100GB
Ultrabay: Samsung SATA300, 320GB, DVDMulti (two different dvd's when swapping)
Graphics: Nvidia Quadro FX 570M, 256MB, PCIe
Firewire
Bluetooth
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Intel 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection
Ricoh Memory Stick Reader, SD/MMC
Fedora 16 on T61p
Re: Fedora 16 on T61p
I don't have a memory stick reader, so I cannot test it. But give it a shot by booting the Fedora live CD and seeing if the installer shows your memory stick. Your SATA drive will be significantly faster since it runs at 1.5Gbps compared to the memory stick's 480Mbps.
As far as dual booting is concerned, you should be able to switch between boot devices at startup by pressing F12. It'd be much more complicated setting up GRUB or something of that ilk.
