SSD manufacturers providing non-Windows firmware updaters
SSD manufacturers providing non-Windows firmware updaters
While many members use Windows on their ThinkPad, there are also large number who refuse to use the OS for various reasons (myself included). With that in mind, when you decide to move from a slower, mechanical harddrive to a faster, NAND-flash SSD, what criteria do you use to decide what to spend your hard-earned money on? The best thing to do usually, is look at OS support for when it comes to drivers, and especially for SSDs, firmware updaters. This thread was created with that idea in mind.
Since the forum software does not support the BBCode for displaying tables, I created the a spreadsheet in Google and published it here:

I would also like your help in adding to this so that we may have a source of information on this topic for future reference. I have created the form for the aforementioned spreadsheet and it's published here:

Re: SSD manufacturers providing non-Windows firmware updaters
Thanks for the name.
I'll look into them next. I already took a look at Corsair and OWC but no dice.
Update: I looked at the SanDisk site and there are no firmware updates yet. I added a new column to the spreadsheet for the SSD controller as it is the most important component of the drive and the reason for the updates in the first place.

Yeah, my comment was more about them not offering any. They really need to for the Sandforce SF1200 controller. Sadly, since SATA III and new SF controllers supporting it, I don't see them offering one for the SF1200.

Re: SSD manufacturers providing non-Windows firmware updaters
They really should if they want to retain their customer base. Hopefully they do soon instead of simply telling their current customers to upgrade to the latest hardware.
