Battery life under Debian

I currently have a x220 i5 2540M with a 6-cell battery. I have two problems which I can't seem to find the answer to so here we go!

1. Battery life is horrible under Debian and i've seen a couple of people actually make their batteries last 3-4 more hours than what im getting. (4 hours at 100%)

2. Whats up with the fan revving up so bad when its at 50c?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Could you please post your current version of Debian and your kernel version?

to check your current kernel version, open a terminal and write uname -r

hm.. this could be a kernel issue (not 100%), but why don't you try updating to the latest stable version -> 3.5.2 and test again.

Did you do profiling with powertop and apply the recommended tweaks?
