HDMI Audio Issue

#1 Post by BruisedQuasar » Fri Feb 15, 2013 9:25 am

Hello, I'm trying to get my Thinkpad Edge 019923U (14" AMD 2.3Ghz Turion II P520) to stream via HDMI to a large screen TV. It otherwise works well under LinuxMint 13 Maya (Ubuntu, Puppy, & Ultimate Edition 3.4 & 3.5) It processes and plays XBMC and other video well & it streams video well through HDMI, but I cannot get audio.

In other laptops, I know under Linux you must select HDMI in Sound settings. For some reason, both hardware show up for the Edge and it appears LinuxMint identifies it and all but I cannot get audio except through the laptop speakers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

While browsing the Arch Linux wiki for some information on hardware mixing, I found this little snippet and thought of this thread.
Note: If you are using an ATI card and linux 3.0, check your kernel/grub settings, you most likely need to use the 'radeon.audio=1' boot parameter, or alternatively set up the option in your modprobe configuration files.
There looks to also be quite a useful section on HDMI audio:

Hope this helps a little!
