hi ... im new here .. a 18 yrs ol student that quite new to linux ... less than 6 month using it ...

i got a problem here ... i have a R51 running FC3 .... before this i use Mandrake10.1 ...

when i use mandrake, all hardwares are supported perfectly except the wireless card (which i manage to find the way to enable it)... after a while using mandrake and get used to linux, i decided to use FC3 ... after installation, the system runs perfectly...but after a few days, i decided to upgrade the kernel from 2.6.9 to 2.6.11 ... however, after i compile the new kernel, a problem arise ... my soundcard doesn't work with the kernel ... then.... i also realised that even with the 2.6.9 kernel my sound system only work if i use Gnome... if i login to KDE, the sound system malfunctions and it continue not to work even if i log back in to Gnome...

somebody ... please... help me ...

another thing... how to make ACPI workin? ... ive tried the method in thinkwiki but it failed ... everytime i suspend-to-ram my R51 wont resume ... when i press the Fn key, the screen turns on with a message sort of like this..
Suspending system=================================================================
===========
why did this happen?? ..... also ... ive installed ibm_acpi module in the kernel .. but the Fn hotkeys still does not work...

suspend-to-disk works with klaptop_acpi_helper ... but with one problem ..after resuming, the clock is not updated .. for example... if i hibernate it on 6pm tuesday and turn it on on 2pm wednesday, the clock still show 6pm tuesday .... anyone know how to correct this ...???

i really appreciate ur help...
and sorry because my english is not quite good

try running aumix and make sure the line-jack sense and head phone sense are disabled. Turn on the PCM and Volume. Make sure the ALSA modules are compiled with the kernel.

Good luck.

I just fixed my undcard problem, it seems the new version of the driver supports something like 'Headphone Jack Sense' , Have to 'mute' in in Gnome volume control to make the sound card work.
