try passing kernel options:
apm=on acpi=off
If that does not work, maybe fishing around in the kernel boot options could help. The f+# keys will show you options.
Did you download cd? Have you tried booting it in another computer? Could be a bad download.
Just some suggestions. Let us know if that works.

Try the solution found in this thread for the TP 600X. It certainly can't hurt, and it may work:

Check the web for help on how to edit the GRUB boot commands "on the fly" - you don't have to edit the file, but GRUB displays the the boot options and lets you edit them. I've never used the Live CD, so I can't tell you exactly how it's done. But my guess is that you can figure it out. On a standard system, you press e to edit the boot commands, and the menus help you from there.
It's *really* easy once you find the way to do it. When Ubuntu is installed, then you can edit the file so you don't have to change the parameters during bootup.

yea grub is nice, a recent convert i am.
although, i wasnt too impressed with ubuntu or its other variants. i am definately not flaming here, but for me, mandrake / mandriva has proven best on mobile platforms for friends wanting to try linux. Going to test out gentoo and archlinux on my new 2378-FVU when i get it (*Crosses Fingers*), come on, pull through for me IBM / Lenovo, you can do it!

What type of mini pci card do you have in the T23? There is a problem with the kernel 2.4 and above when using the 3COM combo mini pci card in conjunction with ACPI. On some linux distributions, you will exhibit abnormal behaviour (system boots up, but freezes and unfreezes every few seconds), 3COM card won't be detected correctly, or the system simply won't boot up.
The only solution is to use a different combo card (i.e. Intel or Xircom will do fine) or don't use a kernel with ACPI support (this involves explictly telling linux install at startup to use no ACPI support and to ensure the kernel you install does not have ACPI support).
What I recommend to you is to remove the mini-pci card. If the system works correctly with the card removed, go onto ebay and buy yourself a Xircom or Intel card combo card. Expect to spend around $10.

The issue only exists with the 3COM cards - which yours is not. The 3COM cards are very popular in the T2*s. There is something else causing the problem.baraider wrote:it has the ibm high rate wireless combo card...802.11b with modem..
if i buy a card, probably i would buy a ibm atheros a/b/g II card...you think it would work?
