Hello all.
I am sure that this question has been asked before, but I wanted to know what driver should be compiled into the kernel before building it.
I have seen reports of the CS46xx driver not being fully compatible with the 770 series, yet I don't see an option to compile the CS4236 driver as a module. Everytime I boot the computer, I get insmod errors saying that the CS46xx module could not be loaded due to it being busy or no such device exists (which I think the second is true).
Has anyone had any luck get the @#$@ sound chip to work in Linux? Everything else works great such as USB support, console framebuffer with TuX on the screen, but no luck with the sound.
I would love to get over this minor hump. Thanks in advance for all your support.

Hello.
I have installed Fedora Core 1 onto TP770X retrofitted with PIII-500.
It works fine including the sound. I successfully confitured the ALSA
sound driver under kernel-2.4.22-1.2188.nptl by following this page,
http://www.ufsdump.org/papers/alsa-howto.html
Sorry I have no experience of using kernel-2.6 but I assume the ALSA
configuration may be almost the same as for 2.4.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for that information.
I know that some of the kernel driver modules for 2.6 still are based on 2.4 so I'll have to see if that works for me.
It is hard to believe that 2.4 and 2.6 still won't properly detect a fully compatible ALSA sound chip. Time to start kernel hacking
