Yes, I know, I've got too much pension to squander. Just to let you all know I can't get fantastic Seagate 7 slim to work with Linux. It does not mount or read the drive when plugged in! Half of my ThinkPad collection now run on Linux Mint 17.3 Mate! If anyone knows how to use this with Linux please post. Thanks

update 5th November.

Looked at it today and it was formatted as exFAT. Advert on C.NET says it comes ready formatted as exFAT. I re-formatted it to NTFS , it now works on Win and Linux, Phew! all OK now

If that has the Seagate Dashboard software, you are screwed unless you have Windows or Mac.
If you don't want/need that drive for Windows, try to use DBAN on it to write all zeros on that HD, to destroy the Seagate software.
Then format it for Linux, and you should be good.

Thanks for your reply RBS, in the end I just did a quick format in NTFS and it seems to work O.K. in Windows and Linux.
