Seagate 7 HDD not working with Linux SOLVED

Yes, I know, I've got too much pension to squander. Just to let you all know I can't get fantastic Seagate 7 slim to work with Linux. It does not mount or read the drive when plugged in! Half of my ThinkPad collection now run on Linux Mint 17.3 Mate! If anyone knows how to use this with Linux please post. Thanks
update 5th November.
Looked at it today and it was formatted as exFAT. Advert on C.NET says it comes ready formatted as exFAT. I re-formatted it to NTFS , it now works on Win and Linux, Phew! all OK now
