How to get P50 displayed on external monitors on Ubuntu 16.04?

I haven't figured out how to use a second monitor on Ubuntu 16.04. I have tried installing nvidia 361, 358 and 364 drivers. But none of them can let the computer recognize a second monitor after reboot.

I was planning to install Bumblebee as well later, and hopefully something like http://www.unixreich.com/blog/2013/linu ... ly-solved/ will work on the P50 workstation with NVidia M1000M card. But I am stuck at the driver issue.

Anyone has the same issue?

Thanks!

If optimus is enabled in the bios and you are using linux, bumblebee, mesa, intel, and nvidia drivers all need to be installed. This may explain the monitor problems you are having.

More info here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/bu ... _for_Linux

EDIT: since you are using ubuntu, just use

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia primus linux-headers-generic

I looked into getting a P50 not long ago, and during my research I came across this discussion about external monitors and Linux on the P50:
