X120e Distro Mint Mate!
The X120e tends to bog pretty bad with W7 on it, so Im Distro shopping.
Like Zorin, but a bug make the system bar disappear at the bottom
Mint also yields bugginess specifically when scrolling
Ubuntu is BUTT ugly. I hate the Launcher, I hate the system bar at the top
Suggestions?
Ron

Re: X120e Distro
Did you try Linux Mint Debian Edition or the regular version? I found the former to be faster and less error prone (MATE desktop version especially).
If you want to squeeze out the most performance and have access to the most up to date repositories, Arch Linux hands down. However, it takes a little bit of work to get set up properly. The beginners wiki guide is very useful.

I have a x131e. Mine has a Celeron 1.5ghz processor. Does your x120e have an AMD processor? I have Win 8 on mine with an SSD drive and it runs very well.

Re: X120e Distro
It has the single CPU AMD.
Windows 7 runs OK, but once you add Palemoon its starts to stutter badly while scrolling.

Re: X120e Distro
These generation AMD CPU has very poor performance. I had an AMD dual core version in my (now ex) X120e, I tried Win7 and Debian and both run slow. Even with SSD and 8GB RAM, I gave it away at the end.jronald wrote:It has the single CPU AMD
I'd recommend to try a lightweight Distro or use a modern one with LXDE or similar light GUI, but I wouldn't expect miracles out of that hardware...

Re: X120e Distro
I want to suggest a different distro: BunsenLabs linux
Just tried it on my T61 and it is super fast! It uses debian repos so you also have access to tons of different apps.

Re: X120e Distro
Ok, Mint Mate has passed the first 24 hours, trying my normal website to see what its like. Im on it now.
Cant get Pale Moon to install, however Midori is running quite well
I added a couple of Indicator-Monitors and other than a few visual things I still need to work through this little Netbook seems to be holding its own!
Sidenote: Not Sure what The Chive has for Code but but Wow, it sucks up cycles.
