ubuntu = dead t42?

Just wondering if running ubunto could kill my t42. Seems unlikely but just thought I'd ask.
It died the first time about a week ago. It locked up twice while I was streaming music using gxine. After the second lock up it would not start - no boot screen, no display, power light illuminates, fan powers on, hard drive clicks a few times, then...nothing. I called ibm customer service and they had me send it in. I received it back yesterday and it seemed fixed.
Just a few minuites ago it died again, this time with no warning, same symptoms as before. IBM is sending out a box again for return. Another week without my laptop
.
Could some sort of power setting cause it to overheat??
