Natural scrolling on t470s

#1 Post by moijk » Mon Jul 24, 2017 4:56 pm

I have a t470s. I come from a macbook pro so natural scrolling would be pretty much required. i run ubuntu 17.04 with gnome desktop.

I've not run linux on a laptop since .. well.. a ThinkPad x61s I had. So I've not needed to do this before. But I'd like for both the thinkpoint and trackpad to scroll what apple calls natural. you know, you push a paper and the paper moves the same way.

the for me useless touchscreen on this machine scrolls naturally, the thinkpoint do too. but the trackpad is the reverse. I've tried gnome settings:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad natural-scroll true

but it does nothing. nothing is changed in the behavor, not even by killing X and starting it again.

Anyone got a pointer to what to do? ;)

You'd need to configure Xorg in some fashion (unfortunately it's fairly unstable and often drops custom settings). One of the worst pieces of software I've ever had the pleasure to deal with.

I found the solution. The reason the gnome settings didn't work was that I had the wrong drivers running. after doing an

sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

it defaulted to xserver-xorg-input-libinput after a reboot of X, and that supported it. so now it scrolls the same ways with both pointing units. woohoo ;)
