Linux mint is there but it won't boot

#1 Post by brutus9 » Thu Mar 01, 2018 10:51 pm

so I bought a lenovo thinkpad e130
i put mint on it
everything was fine
then it stopped working
I figured out that this was because the hard drive was loose because it wasn't screwed in properly
so I fixed that
but now only windows 10 will boot and mint refuses.
I know it is still there with all my data because I was going to reinstall and the mint installer told me that mint was already there on the hard drive
so what should I do?

thanks

You dual-booted it? Ok. Well you could format the Linux Mint Partition and reinstall. It was possible Linux Mint was accessing the boot sector or a necessary part of the OS when thr HDD was knocked loose causing data corruption.

Does the bootloader appear when the system passes POST to offer a choice of which operating system to use?

I came in to read this thread because I am looking at linux and the various flavours, and trying to learn of any potential issues I should be aware of before installing, much as I am with other *nix systems. It's an interesting note about a corrupt boot loader/boot sector so that is one for mental retention.
