I just threw Unbuntu on my T42. So far it is working well. The graphics drver seems to work, the wireless card works, but I don't have any sound at the moment. I guess I'm looking for a good place to find drivers like sound driver and software like power managemnet, burning software, etc. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Have you updated everything with Kynaptic yet? That's what I'd try first.

You'll also find K3B in Kynaptic, which is what I burn with; it's kind of bloatware so you might prefer something lighter.

You might also want to install Synaptic while you're at it, since that gives you access to more repositories. Installing packages isn't that much harder than on 'doze, since Ubuntu takes care of your dependencies for you.

I have Kubuntu on what is probably my lowest-maintenence desktop, so I'm not over at the Ubuntu forums very often, but the folks there are quite friendly:

Another suggestion is to double-check that the sound isn't muted. It's a painfully obvious solution, but I was flipping out for days after an install when I didn't notice that it was and all I had to do was unmute it.

Ubuntu's a great distro and very low-hassle. Congratulations. :D

If you have Ubuntu (which is the gnome-version) you dont have the tool "kynaptic". This is the KDE-version of "synaptic".
But you can easily install it by console "sudo apt-get install synaptic" also on kubuntu.

But sound have worked on my machine T42 out of the box. No problem ever. Start a mixer and have a look if all volume levels are adjusted right.
