Overheating while compiling an Android ROM

Hey all- I've got a T61 with an X9000 processor that I used to (partially) compile an Android ROM from source with this evening. I got about 25% of the way through the job, (2 hours) and noticed that the temperature was holding between 96 and 100 degrees C. I shut the process down shortly thereafter. I put thermal paste on the CPU about 2yrs ago. The paste was some old Arctic Seal that I had laying around. I've just ordered some of the new Arctic MX-4 paste. I will try this and see if it makes a difference. Current temp under no load is 54 C. Thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

Idle temp of 50+ deg C is too high in my books. New thermal paste might help but might not considering you applied it 2 years ago which is not that long ago. Back then did you stress/stability test the CPU before deciding that it was fit for duty? That CPU will run hot unless you underclock it.

I agree. In my experience Only X series Thinkpads idle at over 50c. Underclocking aside, have you undervolted the CPU? What thermal paste are you using?

What is the method for undervolting these units? Throttlestop? RMclock? Recommended settings?
