Thinkpad off but dock usb is still on

Hello

I wonder if it's a normal behaviour that the dock usb ports are still on when the laptop has been turned off? Is there any solution in order to shut it down?

I'm currently running arch xfce on a t450s/x240 with a pro dock station.

If the dock is connected to power, then yes, it's normal, or should I say, can be normal. There may be a BIOS setting responsible for it, although I'm not sure. It possible there is a setting in the OS as well, like one of the wake-on settings.

Unfortunately having deactivated "usb always on" in bios does not change the behavior of the dock. which is problematic because of having external drives that are powered.

I checked with my Thinkpad 25 and the Ultra Dock (not quite the same setup, but same class of docks), and when the laptop is off, only the rightmost ("always-on") USB port has power; the rest do not.

To try to narrow things down a bit - do all USB ports on your dock have power when the laptop is off? What about when the dock is connected to AC, but there is no laptop on it? What about the moment when you connect the laptop (turned off) to the dock?

Are you certain your OS goes to full power-off and not standby?

I tried all differents usb, usb2 and usb3 ports. The only way is to unplug the AC from the dock, it seems like there is no way to turn off usb ports while the system is off (at least in my case under linux and with this dock model).
My system is not on suspend or hibernate.

I would continue to dig the issue over time to see if a solution arises. Anyway, I'm able to turn off the external drives by myself, it's just not practical unlike if it was automatic, as my mac.
