I'm picking up a 570 in a little while and am trying to decide between linux (deb or ubuntu) and win2k.

From what I've read on the forums, win2k will recognize and support hotswapping of the ultrabase, is this correct?

Will any flavour of linux support hot-swapping of the ultrabase?

I'm mostly concerned with linux/win2k recognizing the second battery... because I'm like Mad Max: A ROAD WARRIOR ;P

you will need IBM-ACPI-Tools. But one problem with docking will remain, the dock will only cause ACPI-events, which report an eject-request etc., to the OS when the Thinkpad is booted in the dock.
Otherwise you will have to do an eject-request manually (e.g. with a hotkey or so).

BTW: the IBM-ACPI-modules should be included in most actual distributions. But it may not be the newest version.

In ubuntu the version 0.8 of ibm_acpi is included.
To get a better support of your thinkpad you have to get version 0.11

ACPI? From the guides I've read on linux on the 570 I thought APM was the safer way to go.... Is it just because ACPI support has improved greatly since those were written?

For instance, I read that ACPI suspend wouldn't work but APM suspend would.

Any insight is appreciated.
