T41 and ubuntu

Hi

I am new !

I was trying to install ubuntu on IBM T41 with WinXP Pro already installed. I saw some remarks on it before. I created a new partition for ubuntu. I also told ubuntu to put grub in the Master Boot Record (MBR). This is a problem according to http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/ubunt...hinkpadt42.html.
Now when I reboot I get brub error 17. I cant use the IBM resuce key.

(1) Was this the cause of the error?
(2) How to fix things up?
(3) Is the only way to reformat the hard disk?

Thanks, Koby

Sounds like you messed up your grub installation.
If nothing helps and your ubuntu system is not yet configured (means you loose only the system installation time and not for configuration), try to re-install your ubuntu system and re-install your grub.
Perhaps this might help.

Or even better, try to re-install your grub only.
But dont ask me how, I am glad that my system is running very smoothly.

Hope that helps a little bit,

regards
Andreas

This might restore the master boot record and give you back the IBM rescue key:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54483

Read the description to find out.

Then just reinstall Ubuntu, putting Grub where it belongs.
