P50/PopOS/40A5 dock, dGPU driver issues/ext. monitor not detected after sleep
P50/PopOS/40A5 dock, dGPU driver issues/ext. monitor not detected after sleep
Hi,
I've already posted somewhere else but couldn't find any help. Meanwhile I've done some tests and suspect that I'm having a driver issue.
The problem:
My P50 running PopOS doesn't recognize the external monitor that's plugged into the dock after waking from suspend. My current solution is connecting the display directly to the ThinkPad, but that's not exactly satisfying. Now, I thought I'd give a different distro a try and it turns out display detection works better on Fedora 37. Tbh I have no idea which drivers were used, it seemed to work out of the box. I'd keep Fedora, but I'd need to tinker around some more to get the drivers working correctly, because game performance was rather poor for some reason (dGPU was used). I didn't have much time to investigate, so please excuse my vague descriptions. Does anyone know how I can make the P50 on the dock work with my monitor as intended (on PopOS)? Switching ntegrated/NVIDIA/hybrid mode is supported and working, it's just the display issue.
Thanks!

Re: P50/PopOS/40A5 dock, dGPU driver issues/ext. monitor not detected after sleep
Don't have experience with that particular combination P50 + pop OS, but I have used this dock. Sometimes monitors didn't wake from sleep on windows. It may not be the same issue, as mine required unplugging and plugging the monitor cable in the dock. Lenovo's docks had always some quirks in the past - but later models work only if you are lucky at best.

Same issue I have had with mine - sometimes need to unplug and then plug back in the monitor cable.Bionicman wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 7:11 pmDon't have experience with that particular combination P50 + pop OS, but I have used this dock. Problem is that is doesn't always happen, and sometimes even the usb ports go to "sleep" and need the same unplug/plug procedure. Far from giving an advice, but just stick with the distro that works for you - that docking hardware is not trustworthy ( although later thunderbolt port replicators will have even less of its functionality).teamde78 wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 7:31 amSame issue I have had with mine - sometimes need to unplug and then plug back in the monitor cable.Bionicman wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 7:11 pmDon't have experience with that particular combination P50 + pop OS, but I have used this dock. See "Changing the default idle-delay time" paragraph.
Hope it helps.
