T42 drains battery while in sleep mode - what to do ?

Hi together,

yesterday I found out, that my T42 with Kubuntu Hoary is affected by battery drainage while it is in sleep mode.
In the last night I put my T42 in sleep mode (around midnight) and in the morning at 7:30 am I got a battery warning sound.
The battery was not empty before I put it into sleep mode, battery was around 30-40% charged.

So, what do you think ? Is this a problem, can I do something. Is it a linux problem, because I dont have that problem with windows installed.
Is this a distribution specific problem ?
Or is it a hardware problem ?
