As have I written on the other forum http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=13736, I have installed a SuSE 9.3 on by brand new T42p. Here's a short summary of what worked, what I tweaked and what I don't get to work (or what I'd like to get to work).
Works out of the box:
USB
PCMCIA
WLAN
Bluetooth
Wifi
Sound
Suspend to disk.
Required changes:
Suspend to RAM (append acpi_sleep=s3_bios to kernel load options)
Powersaving on the FireGL (add Option "DynamicClocks" "on" to xorg.conf).
Untested:
external VGA
Modem
TV out
Parallel port
I'm not sure whether DynamicClocks really work. Any way to test.
This is where the "I could use some assistance" section starts
Non operational:
Fingerprint reader (haven't even tried it. I just use encrypted HDDs, much more secure). I'll try this at some other point.
Suspend modes with the ATi drivers. (Thanks ATi to shipping crappy drivers
)
Hotswapping the Ultrabay slim devices.
What I'd like to test (for extending battery life):
Undervolting CPU
Underclocking GPU
Celestar
